please be patient[old man] running windows 8 . i downloaded 8.1 from windows store put it on a usb pen drive and tried to install . when it got to the part where it say's just updating a few more thing's , it goes into a loop . i gets mad and does a clean install of windows 8. telling 8.1 how f in sh-t it was , and how far i would kick it. anyway should i have done a clean install of 8.1 or does it go over windows 8

I just did it through the Store & it replaced my 8 Pro with 8.1 Pro

In the future I do believe one will not get any Windows Updates if they do not have 8.1.

Others may chime in & be more positive.

David is correct in that it is suggested that you may not get important updates if you don't upgrade to 8.1. Plus 8.1 has addressed things that many found challenging or irritating in 8 (though you can get used to anything in time :).)

Maybe you need to apply that 'Just be patient' to the upgrade. It is very big and will take time to work through but it is worth it in the end.

Or you could look here and do a clean install of 8.1 using this tool maybe?

You're welcome! Make sure you have a copy of the .iso safely on a usb in case you ever need/want to reinstall.
