    ok...just got home...I'm in a turkey coma

Why isnt there a reply button at the bottom of every post?? or am i missing it because of "TURKEY BLINDNESS"

Nootch...yup...did all that...naked drive...re-boot with one or first program install...and yep ...same result...it would boot all way to colored screen(right before win login page) and snag...then ...cntrl-alt-del...and immediately run HP diagnostics..which now showed BRAND NEW HARDRIVE with multiple sectors with damage ....recommendation: remove all important data immediately.,,,from there (with same hdd) went into recovery options,,NO DICE nothing worked and win recovery was no longer offering me "change start-up options" it was just GONE. I was able to get into windows through safe -mode a couple of the times. So i grabbed another hdd...cleared it down to all unallocated space and installed again and here I am ...not wanting to re-start for fear of crashing permanently and missing FINALS this weekend. my install disk was purched at staples and i came from win 7 pro.

...I wonder if farts that gobble and crapping feathers are symptoms of TURKEY COMA ?

I just realized that if i'm unwilling to re-boot at the present time...you guys cant really help me...huh ? ...oh ..one of you guys had commented that you never heard of Graphics cards causing these kinds of probs. Well neither have I; but I have heard of GPU driver update/installs doing things like this ..several times ...and 90% of them Nvidea.

Could be a motherboard fault, SATA controller maybe? Not sure how you prove that though. I'd swap in a new SATA cable for that drive. How old is this motherboard? What OS was on it before 8.1? Any issues with that OS?

I'm running a GT 640 on this PC and a GT 610 on my other desktop. Latest catalyst on both and both running Windows 8.1 64 bit. I haven't had any of your issues with the default Windows driver or the latest Catalyst from NVidia.
