Solved Graphical "Choose your operating system" gone?

Hi,

I recently got an Exopc, and they had set it up as a dual-boot, with Windows 7 64-bit and Window 8 customer preview (32bit).

When I initially got it, and powered it on, I'd get the blue, graphical "Choose your operating system" page, and I initially chose to go to Win8. Later, I chose to go to Win7.

I'm not sure what I did, but now, instead of getting that blue graphical "Choose your operating system" page, it goes directly to the "old" style text page which lists Windows 7 and Windows 8, and so, since the Exopc is a touch-style slate, I can't select the operating system unless I have a physical keyboard attached now.

How can I get that graphical OS choice page back again?

I noticed that the 64GB SSD has 3 partitions:

- A 100MB partition - not sure what this is for
- A 35GB partition for Win7
- A 25GB partition for Win8

Is the graphical choice page in that 100MB partition? I'm wondering if maybe the Win7 partition got set as the "Active" partition so that it's always booting to the Win7 partition?

Thanks,
Jim

P.S. I just checked in Computer Management after booting to the Win7, and it shows:

- A 100MB partition - not sure what this is for - Active, Primary Partition
- A 35GB partition for Win7 - Boot, Primary Partition
- A 25GB partition for Win8 - Primary Partition

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8 preview
Boot into win8 ,Open an elevated cmd and type bcdboot c:\windows

Most people prefer the text based menu - because you do not have to reboot to get out of it.

Hi,

Thanks! That "bcdboot c:\windows" did the trick!

As I mentioned, the reason that I needed/wanted the graphical chooser back is that the Exopc is a slate, and the keyboard/mouse doesn't work with the text chooser.

Thanks,
Jim
