Installed software in Win 8.1 giving dll error

Hello,

I wanted to know about dll files and thereby solving my problem. I installed a software in windows 8.1. When I started it, it quit saying certain dll files not found. So are dll files present in windows installation or are they installed by the software. I tried by downloading these files and pasting into installation directory. I could not find all of them. Even if I get all the required dll files, will this method solve the problem. (sfc command gave negative result, malware check also gave negative result). Since I understand dll files to be for windows based systems, is there any site by microsoft which provides all these files.

Most software comes with dll files specific to the application. They must also be compatible with the OS. There is a way to force dll registration with regsvr32 command but again the dll(s) must be compatible. The dll(s) normally has to go in the System32 or SysWOW64 folder.

It would help to know what software you are trying to install. The installer should do everything automatically. Have you tried installing using compatibility mode?

Thanks for the reply... I checked he software... it has both 32 bit and 64 bit exe files. I had separately tried to install the 32 bit mode but it does not work. And the installer by default installs the 64 bit mode. I could find some dll files like tcl85.cll, tk85.dll on the net but rest seem to be software or very specific dll files. Also, is there anyway to force install the 32 bit version.

I have windows 8.1, 64 bit at my end. I am trying to install an EDA tool called tanner.

Sorry but you are being a bit vague. What software exactly and is it even 8.1 compatible? If it is not compatible then it may be impossible to get it working except on a virtual machine with older version of Windows.

Ok... it is an electronic design automation tool....... used to make circuits... it is Windows Vista 64 bit compatible and unofficially win 8 compatible.... other than that is pls tell me is there any forced way of installing the tool in 32 bit mode... any general or specific way...?

I'm sorry but we seem to be misunderstanding each other here. If you could direct me to the site where the software is then I could try it myself. Much easier than back and forth and really have no idea what you are dealing with.

OK... just tell me is there any way to force run the32 bit installer and install it...for any software... other than that you cant download the software from their site unless you have paid for the same / have prior access to it...

I honestly don't know since I have no idea what software. You can run the compatibility troubleshooter on the installer and see if that works.

Thanks HG! I'm on limited allowance satellite ISP and not sure how big the trial download is. Maybe someone else can try it.

It really depends on how up to date the software is. Some third party 32 bit program can be installed in 64 bit windows, some can't.
However, looking at the website provided by HG. It says it is compatible with Windows 8 etc... You can try to right click on the installer->Properties->Compatibility and set it to Vista then right click on the installer and run as Admin.

FYI, DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files are bunch of files that contain common functionalities and can be shared by different programs/Applications so those DLL files must exist as part of Windows DLL files or included with the installer.

The best way is to contact the Software vender and ask them to sort it out.

OK... how to run compatibility troubleshooter pls....

Right click on the installer .exe file, then properties, compatibility tab, Run compatibility troubleshooter.
