Solved Cannot transfer Windows 8 Pro license to new computer

I have a laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed (currently running 8.1 64-bit). I also purchased Windows 8 Pro a while ago. It was installed on another laptop, but has since been removed.

I decided to upgrade my current laptop to Pro in the add features menu. It worked fine, but the license is not activated because the activation server thinks the license is still in use by the older laptop.

I tried the automated call service, however, when asked how many computers the product was installed on, I made the error of saying more than one. Since then, when I try the automated call service, my Installation ID is refused or something and I'm put on hold for ages. I can't remain on hold because it's draining my money. I lost 10£ in 15 minutes of calls.

I managed to chat with the Windows Answer Desk and all the woman kept pointing me to was to reinstall windows. I really don't want to do that.

Is there a way to transfer the license, or at least go back to Windows 8.1 (the OEM version) without having to refresh?

Thanks

Thanks for pointing me to Skype, I wouldn't have thought about that. After being on hold for a long time I finally reached someone who could help me. My Windows 8.1 Pro is now activated on my new computer.
