Clean install having 2 HDs (one of them is a backup)

Hello, right now I have Win7 and I want to do a clean install of Win8.1, but I have 2 HDs in my pc and one of them must remain untouched (it's my backup HD; also there is a Win7 folder, which I hope doesn't make confusion during install), so I want to format only the HD in which there is Win7 installed, how can I do it?

If you select the "Custom" option during the install you can pick where Windows is installed. You can also delete only the partitions you want. I keep my documents, pictures and music on a Data drive and install Windows to its own drive. I delete all the partitions on the OS drive while leaving the Data drive alone. Clean Install - Windows 8

To be super safe, disconnect the drive you don't want touched until the install is done.

Best to physically disconnect the drive you do not want Windows installed on then start the computer and verify you have the right drive. Otherwise the boot files may be installed on the wrong drive. Also, sometimes people get a little careless and end up formatting and installing Windows on the wrong drive. On forums I have seen many cases where that has happened.

Thank you all, but I don't think I can physically disconnect it; the problem is how can I understand which is the one with Win7 installed (and not the one in which there is the Win7 folder, remains of a previous RAID).

A screen shot of your expanded disk management screen may help. Is it running in RAID now? If yes striped or mirrored?

Why do you think you can`t disconnect it ?

    Of course you can.

I meant I'm not capable of disconnect it!
It was in RAID 1 (mirror), not anymore and don't want to re-enable it.
For the screen, I don't want to enter so far in the installation process and abort it, sorry
