How to Stop Win 8.1 from Installing

I have Win 8 Pro. Somehow that insidious offer to upgrade to 8.1 was activated by accident. I do not want 8.1. 8.1 has downloaded and is waiting for me to restart my computer to finish the install. I have kept my computer running for 2 days i.e. not shut it down in hopes that I can find a way to halt 8.1 from installing. I desperately do not want 8.1 and I'm getting a bit wild-eyed trying to keep 8.1 out of my system.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

In effect it is already installed and would be configured at reboot. If it fails to configure, it will revert back to Windows 8 by itself. If you do not want Windows 8.1, though I don't know why you would not, you will have to Factory restore your system.

Do you have a restore point or external saved image you could go bask to? Without that it might be a little tricky because part of the installation may have been done already. You might look for a download file somewhere. The 8.1 upgrade is a lot of data and I would think being that large it could be found.

I think a restore point is by far the best way.

I agree with trying the System Restore for at least the day before you started the install. I think it will work.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm not ready to factory restore the system so I guess I'll have a go with 8.1. The reason I don't want it is that all is working so well and smoothly with 8 Pro....don't fix it if it ain't broke. Plus I've read some real horror stories about 8.1.

Will 8.1 give me the exact same features that come with Pro?

You will have the same features you had before, plus better performance and stability. If we listened to so-called horror stories we would still be using Windows 3.0

Unfortunately I was short-sighted and didn't create any restore points (are any automatically created?) or an external image. I imagine if I created one now it would include the aspects of 8.1 that have already been installed.

    Thanks for your help.

Actually, I believe some restore points are created automatically, like before updates that are considered critical.

On the other hand, don't be too concerned about 8.1, it is really quite good. My desktop came with 8.0 and I did the store upgrade to 8.1 and I would not want to go back.

Thanks for the positive feedback about 8.1; hope I will feel the same after using it.
