How can I create a windows 8 core dvd from a pro dvd

Hi,

When windows 8 first came out with promotional pricing I purchased the Pro version which I forgotten how much i paid for it, but none the less its a valid paid copy. i read the instructions on how to download 8.1 using my retail copy of pro 8.1. I have two computers, 1 desktop and 1 notebook, Desktop running Win 8 Pro and Notebook Win 8 core.

I want to use a clean install on my notebook for windows 8.1 core, is there any way to edit the dvd to change it to core. I know we could choose the edition and make editions easy using the winlite too back in the windows 7 daysl. So is this possible?

You can use the same ISO/DVD as long as it is the correct architecture - x86 or x64.

The key you enter (or is embedded in your notebook BIOS if it originally came with 8) will define the features that are enabled.

To clarify what adamf said. The DVD is multi edition, Core or Pro, what gets installed depends on the key used. Your current DVD should read and use the embedded OEM BIOS key and install 8.1 Core automatically without prompting you to enter a key. It should also activate online automatically. The only gotcha is if your current install is Core Single language. If it is that DVD won't use that key and will prompt for one.

I managed to save the download folder from upgrading to windows store, anyway making it into a bootable usb disk?

Option Three shows you how to create an ISO using the ESD-ISO tools after you did a store upgrade.

That original download will give you the option to create install media. I made bootable thumb drives. Run the setup file again and it should skip the download and go right to create media.
