Disabling Secure Mode doesn't disable UEFI

Hello,

I'm trying to disable UEFI on my computer. I did this on some other PC's and it all worked out fine, but I got stuck with this one.

The BIOS does have a "secure boot", "fast boot", and "quiet boot" option, but even when I disabled them all I could still only boot into windows 8 (I'm using a USB-stick which worked fine on another computer).

I can't find a CSM or Legacy boot option anywhere!

Also, when I select my boot order, it says "UEFI:" in front of my USB.

Thanks in advance!

If you can boot into Windows 8, what are you trying to boot on the Flash Drive? Or do you mean you cannot boot the flash drive at all? Maybe some clarification in this area.

What options are available on the fifth picture for UEFI USB Flash Drive Priorities?

On the sixth picture it mentions the CSM on the upper right.

Thanks for the fast reply!

I have a bootable version of Windows 7 on my Flash Drive. It works on my windows 7 laptop, so I'm sure the Flash Drive is fine. The problem is that I can't boot into it with this computer.

The option for the "UEFI USB Flash Drive Priorities" allows me to select the flashdrive (as seen in boot order) or select "disable". The flash drive no longer shows up in boot order when this option is disabled.

It mentions CSM indeed, but there isn't an option to turn it on...

Since you are referencing a Windows 7 flash drive, I have to ask if you took any special steps to make it UEFI bootable. Without the extra step, it cannot be booted in that configuration. Also, with newer bioses, you need to be using the Windows 7 SP1 edition.

For Windows 7, as you know, the CSM needs to be enabled. But different OEMs set up their Bios with different options. Since the Bios does mention the CSM, do you have any options if the Secure Boot option is enabled or disabled? In many cases, your options are modified depending what is selected in another area.

I am also wondering if you system actually checks for a valid UEFI USB drive, or just shows that option as default.

I dont think my flash drive is UEFI bootable, which is why I want the computer to boot Legacy/CSM or/and turn UEFI off. I was able to install windows 7 using this flash drive on another windows 8 laptop just yesterday by enabling CSM in bios (but this computer doesn't have an option like that).

I think it checks for a valid UEFI flash drive, but this one isn't UEFI. It also says "UEFI: flash drive.." in the boot order. I need that UEFI gone.

This used to be so simple before windows 8....

In some bios' you need to create a supervisor password to enable certain options...

I have seen instances where even though it was showing as UEFI, it still booted as Legacy. I don't see where you allowed it to boot while showing that configuration, so you might try.

The other thing you can do is to set the flash drive up to boot using UEFI. If you are using an x64 version of Windows 7 SP1, the flash drive can be modified.

I am currently working with another poster trying to get a Legacy version of Windows 7 to use a boot menu to select the installs. Each one will boot fine by itself, but I have not been able to set it up to use a boot menu. I have one more thing to try, but installing Windows 7 in UEFI would be much easier.

yeah I know, tried it, but didn't work. There are no greyed-out options.

Saltgrass:
I can't get into the windows 7-menu when booting the computer. The flash drive I'm using can't boot UEFI... Why isn't there a legacy or UEFI option in my bios?

Sorry, I don't know. The blurb about CSM mentions the System Mode on the Security tab. Are there any options for it? Maybe this could tie in with Superfly's suggestion.

You might check any forums for your OEM, perhaps they have discussed the issue.

And please confirm, if you boot the Flash Drive as UEFI, it fails to boot and does what when you try.
