    Problem Accessing UEFI on startup

I have an 8.1 GPT/UEFI system from an HP, and I can't get into the UEFI on system start. I know that I may be able to do so from within Win 8, but I want to get in on startup. I've tried F1, F9, F10, F12, Esc and Del. I only can get to the boot manager, which does not help. I don't see a way to get to the UEFI from the Win 8 DVD. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hello Jimmy,

In addition to booting to UEFI from within Windows....

UEFI Firmware Settings - Boot to from inside Windows 8

...you could boot to your Boot Options menu by booting from a Windows 8 USB, then be able to select the same "UEFI Firmware Settings" option as above.

Try tapping the esc key when you start your system

Thanks, Brink. I booted to a Win 8 USB, but don't have a UEFI Firmware Settings option. See my screenshot. Slartybart, I tried Esc, but no joy.

What brand and model number is your PC or motherboard? We could see what method they have available.

Thanks, but I'm booting a dd image of the disk in VMware. The disk was in a HP P7-1235.

Thanks very much. The issue here is VMware, which really doesn't support UEFI. So, while I can get into to the Boot Manager, I can't go to a UEFI setup. I was, however, able to edit my VMX file to enable the BIOS firmware, which worked perfectly. I changed it back to EFI to boot to Win 8.
