Dual boot 7 & 8 how to tell which owns text mode Boot Menu

I've been dual booting both 7 and 8x for years, and both have been reinstalled as upgrade in-place repairs, and as far as 8 is, concerned, upgraded several times.

I have always preferred the text mode, legacy boot menus, not least because they do not warm reboot when an OS which is not windows 8x is chosen.

Now I am not sure whether 7 or 8x software runs the boot menu.

How can I tell which is my bootmanager?

It will generally be whichever OS was installed first, which is why when setting up multi-boot scenarios it's best practice to start with the newest OS first and then work backwards.

    Hello fafhrd,

By default, the last installed OS will be the default selected OS to run at startup.

If you like, you can use the tutorial below to set to use the older "Windows Boot Manager" instead of the modern "Choose an operating system" UI.
