Software installation stops without error message

I've been trying to install the printer software for an HP Laserjet printer and can't get it installed. I've even had an HP tech person try to install it via remote control and he couldn't. I was told that something on my system is preventing the installation.

I ran sfc /scannow and it found corrupted files that it couldn't repair. I would be happy to send any log files that may be needed.

If anyone else has come up against this problem and fixed it, I would love to know how you fixed it. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, it is probably an older version of HP files laying around on the hard drive of your computer. The first thing I would do, is to Add/Remove any other HP software via the control panel. Once you have removed all of the HP software, then browse to your program folders on the OS drive, and delete any HP folders that are related to any of the software that you removed from the control panel.

Search the HP site for a software tool that removes any of there software. They use to have one just for these type of issues.

I personally would go into the registry at this time and remove any HP keys that relate to any of the software that you removed from step one. But, if you don't know what you're doing in the registry....DON'T do this.

However, you might pick up a good registry cleaner...I think the one every one uses around here that is well liked is the CCLEANER (Don't quote me on that as I haven't used it in a while, maybe someone else will chime in with that information).

Then try the install again. Hope this helps.

You called it correctly. I had old HP camera drivers installed. Once I removed all the camera software, folders and drivers, the new printer software installed as it should.

Thanks.
