Oi, I'm getting fed up with windows 8(mostly because I can't play over LAN with tunngle D:) and I'd like to trash it. I'm just wondering if I could run the windows 7 installer from desktop, and overwrite the existing OS or if I have to dual boot the two, then remove windows 8 while in 7.

As in oi vay , or as in oi you?

Depends on your setup .

If you installed 8 after 7 - you will probably be able to set 7 as default in boot menu and delete win8 partition.

I upgraded windows 7 to 8. Just wondering if I could install windows 7 over 8 without having to formatting. Like launching setup.exe from desktop and hitting clean install.

Just insert your Win 7 installation DVD and choose Custom (Clean) install when you get to that point in the install process. You will have to reinstall all your apps and customizations and updates. You could always download the Win 7 iso file from Digital River that includes SP1, burn this iso file to DVD and use this plus your original key for the install. This might save you some time on the updates.

Too bad you did not create a system Image prior to installing Win 8CP. It would take less than 10 minutes to restore Win 7, oh well, what can you do. Live and learn.

Personally, I'm spending 99% of my time on my Win 8 CP partition. My Win 7 OS is getting very lonely.
