Bought laptop new with Windows 8. It crashed! Ordered System Restore and Recovery Discs from Acer.
With System Disc, I get a black screen with a blue 4-pane window then little dots going in circles below it. Then...
Restore Fail:
This recover system can only be used on "UEFI" mode. Please press "OK" to restart the system immediately.
I restarted and changed it to UEFI from Legacy with 1st (out of 3) Recovery Discs.
I get the "Gateway" name, then Gateway Recovery Management screen to select my language.
I then get options to a)Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults; b)Completely Restore Computer to Factory Defaults; c) Exit
It has a list to the left...but I can't get past 1.
1.Select Restore Type
2.Check Password
3.Notice
4.Restore Destination
5.Restore Progress
6.Finished
When I chose b) I got a pop up message. "Please boot this Recovery Drive using legacy BIOS mode." I took out the System Disc, changed the BIOS to legacy. I get a "Windows failed to start" black & white screen. Safe Mode, SM with Networking, SF with Command Prompt, Last Known Configuration, Start Windows Normally.
It keeps flashing Gateway then goes back to this black & white screen. I cannot get anywhere! I'm traveling in circles here.
When hitting the delete button to get to the Windows Boot Manager, I see that Windows Vista Home Premium (recovered) is listed.
A bright blue screen with white lettering also flashes quickly and disappears. It happens too quickly to read.
Hope this is enough information. Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you.
