I made a recovery drive, and it doesn't work.

Unfortunately I also deleted the recovery partition. I am on a Vizio CT14-A4, which had Windows 8 preinstalled. I've upgraded to 8.1. I can boot from the drive but it does no see any recovery information on their. The space the files take up on the drive is 6gb, so something is on there. Could it just be an error in a file?

Do you mean you deleted the partition on your recovery drive or your primary drive or both? A bit confused.

What drive are you talking about with the 6GB?

I believe that once you upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1 you effectively lose the Refresh functionality unless you have an original installation disk or have created a Custom Refresh Image regardless if the original OEM Recovery Files are present or not. The files in the Recovery partition are to set your computer back to factory state.

I think that's the way it works.

    Welcome to EightForums

Have you made the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

    information   Information

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD. (Windows 8 only)
Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8
System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8 (Windows 8 only)

I would recommend you making the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or USB drive.
    or
You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from the OEM manufacturer's website.

This was the correct answer. I couldn't refresh, but I reformatted. I feel embarrassed for letting my PC run for shit like months, trying to refresh it and thinking my recovery drive was broken. I'm almost bought the $40 Vizio recovery drive too. Thanks guys!
