Hi
I'm planning to upgrade my PC hardware, I have the 280X for my next upgrade planes
But ATI not supporting 8 driver forcing you to move to 8.1

Before 8 I installed 8.1 (fresh install) but I got all those problem the others having.
Slow booting (up to 3min), slow shutdown even with chasm trick, slow startup programs
issues with flash website like youtube, no scrolling bar, video control issues.
I found windows will be slow booting when I have my BT USB plugged or my android phone,
which I keep it charging, then sometimes it would boot fast.
Removing all USBs devices, the fastest boot I got was 1:15 min.
Sometime it would boot that fast with everything plugged.
Spending week of nightmare fresh installing, the same random issues over and over.

Since I installed 8, 7 months ago, I got zero problems. Booting to desktop in 45 sec.
The most stable windows after XP, better than 7 to me.

I need advice if I'm getting 280X or should I get gtx 770?
I'm afraid of all those random issues will occurs with me.
Wipping my data for nothing and having un-updateable VGA (280X).

My current spec ==> update:
P67 Extreme 4 ==> Z87 Mpower max
i5 2500k ==> i5 4760k
Gtx 560 ==> 280X
12GB Ram
7200rpm 1TB Samsung OS drive.

Thanks.

ATI (AMD) drivers support 280 cards just fine, it doesn't have to be spelled out in the driver's name. Original AMD drivers Download Drivers v14.4 support 8 as well as 8.1 windows. For best results, install 8.1 driver before upgrading to 8.1. It even supports Win7.
As far as phones charging during bootup, delay may be caused by connecting to them, use cable just for charging (ones with just 5vDC connectors, no data ) and there should be no problems. BT, waiting for some connection can also cause delay.

Driver 14.4 is the last driver for Windows 8.
You can read here in the release note for the beta driver and official which won't be available for 8 users.
AMD Catalyst 14.7 Beta Driver for Windows

Sometimes windows would boot fast sometimes not, it's all random.
Removing those two would make boot little faster, I removed BT and unplug my phone during boot
But it still boot +2 min. I started removing device after another, I get different time booting.
So I'm not really sure if it was a coincidences or devices.
Plus it would be troublesome to plug unplug devices every time I boot my windows.

Is this the normal case with 8.1 ?

That's 14,7 and is still Beta, 14.4 works everywhere.

AMD Catalyst 14.8 WHQL (14.201.1008 August 12) Download

14.8 supports only 8.1, even though the download claims otherwise, it supports 280 as well.

I know it support 280, I have experienced random issues with 8.1, If I stayed with 8, it means no longer update for 280.
Don't wanna risk getting 280, updating to 8.1 to have those problems again.
then I'll have to wipe data back to 8 and buying new card (770).

Thanks.

Thanks everyone.
Since those are random issue with no explanation.
And AMD want to play cheap, let them. I'll get 770.
