I need to download a copy of Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and save it to a DVD with files already on it. Will it work?
The only reason I'm asking such a stupid question is because I have more desperation than money. It's embarrassing but I'd have to take out a loan if new DVDs only cost a penny.
My second SSD went out in my computer and I won't get paid again until Thursday. In the meantime, I'd like to install Windows 8 to a 100GB partition on the 1 TB SATA hdd I've been using for storage in that pc.
Then buy a 80 GB SATA hdd to install Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and upgrade to 8.1

Not if you want to install from that DVD, it has to be made Bootable, you can't just put an .ISO or files on it. Do you have an USB memory stick or SD memory card with an adapter to USB larger than 4 GB or at least borrow one ?

Thanks CountMike — USB stick it is. I knew that was way to go but got flustered by not having DVD or ability to buy one temporarily.

This: Microsoft Store works best for making bootable USB to install windows 7 and 8.

The Windows 7 DVD Download Tool, that CountMike linked too, is easy to use and is my preferred tool. Just be aware it formats the thumb drive in NTFS. If your going to do a UEFI install it may be an issue. Some motherboards require the thumb drive to be formatted in FAT for a UEFI install to work. If your motherboard doesn't have a UEFI BIOS its not an issue, NTFS will work just fine.

FAT32 may be the better way to format the USB Thumb/Flash drive but the only real issue is that FAT32 has a single-file size limit of 4GB.
