I have two internal drives on my desktop. I installed windows 8 on a new volume that I created on the second drive—the drive that is not my main drive. I’ve decided that I no longer want it installed. To remove it, if I simply boot into windows 7 and go into Disk Manage then just format the volume that has Windows 8, that should take care of it. Is that the correct way to do it?

Before doing that, you'll want to post a screenshot of Disk Management so we can see how the system is setup. You might have to move the boot files. You might not.

So boot to Windows 7 and run Disk Management from there.

Just to add to the advice GMan has offered - assuming you've been dual booting - if you simply format the volume containing Windows 8, you'll still be left with Windows 8 entries in the boot configuration database. To remove this data you'll have to edit a file, either manually at the command line or if you're not comfortable with that, download EasyBCD which is a much easier tool to use. Let us know when you're ready.

Yes, it is setup for dual booting. Right now when I turn on my machine, it gives me the option of either booting into Win7 or 8. If I choose nothing, the default will boot into Win8. I would send you a screen shot of Disk Management, but I don't know how to do that. Would you let me know. And I did download EasyDCD--the free version. So if you let me know how to send you the screen shot, I'll do it. I've often wondered how to send a screen shot.

Method 1: Press Ctrl + Print Screen. Then go to start menu. Type paint and press enter. In Paint, ctrl + v to paste. <<<Works on Windows 7 and 8

Method 2: In start menu, type snipping tool then press enter. <<< Works on Windows 7 and 8

Method 3: Windows key + Print Screen automatically makes a screenshot in your user account pictures folder. <<<Only works on Windows 8

Cool deal. Yeah, you have a 100 MB system partition created when 7 was installed. You don't need any special advice.

You can simply format the Win 8 volume and then follow Calico's helpful post.
