    windows 8 to 8.1 upgrade no luck for more than 12 hours


    My laptop running fine on windows 8 until it attempted an upgrade to 8.1...it took like 4 hours for the PC to state that it could not complete the installation and its Where to start?     If it was mine, I would shut it off & restart it.

    What version of Windows 8.1 are you trying to install, 32 or 64 bit? If 64, does you hardware meet the requirements? Just because it ran Windows 8 does not mean it can run Windows 8.1.

    I'm with David I'd reboot it and see what happens. If your windows doesn't come up you should still be able to recover your data files by installing your hard drive to another computer. After recovering all your data, use your recovery disks and restore to factory condition.
    Make sure all your hardware is 8.1 compatible!! Check this out with your manufacture, their web site should have any drivers you need to install 8.1. For me Asus G75 VW it was Bluetooth and WiFi that needed the drivers updated before installing 8.1

    Besides Your Manufacture's Drivers update also insure windows updates are up to date.
