Windows 8.1 Core/Single Language Installation w/ Win8 key

Hey guys, my Windows 8 installation sort of died, so I want to reinstall Windows 8.1 on top of it. My Windows 8 came preinstalled with my Dell laptop.

1. I have a Single Language key, but I keep seeing these ISOs for Single Language and Core, what exactly is the difference between these two editions? Also, there is another one, "Core Single Language". What's that?

2. Can anyone recommend me some places to download Windows 8.1 ISOs? Is this thread on another forum trustable?

3. Has anyone recently tried the Windows 8.1 clean install > change product key to Windows 8 key method recently? I am afraid that I will be left with an unuseable installation of Windows.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome,

Core Single Language is exactly as it says.. It's Windows 8 Core but limited to a single language.

MDL forum only links to "untouched" ISO's - no modified links are allowed there - so yes - those can be trusted.

The tutorials here will get you across the line the rest of the way.

PS You will need the CSL .esd file from store (on a different thread) I leave that up to you - I don't think discussing other forums here is a good idea though.

Thanks a ton. I have .esd files, how would I convert them to ISO?

If you have downloaded it directly from store (ie grabbed from ~BT folder), it will be decrypted already, then see here:

PS: If directly downloaded you wil need esddecrypt.exe - that file is fine - I was partially involved during it's development and have the source code. Please refer to that forum - as stated previously.

If you have Windows Single Language version (see screenshot below), you can change your keyboard layout language, but you can't change your Windows display language.

If you have an OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1 Single Language product key, then you must download Windows 8.1 Single Language version (see this link for help).

Here you go. I used this DVD , Windows 8.1 with Update All in one(AIO) -- has single language, pro, pro with media , up to enterprise on it, 32 and 64 bit.
Microsoft Windows 8.1 with Update RTM x86-x64 AIO English ? CtrlSoft | soft.ctrlsoft.org I download this torrent on a torrent site. this page has the torrent download for the ISO.

I literally ran it from inside windows. The people who made this one know what they are doing. you will be amazed on simple it helps you install even if you don't have you key handy at the time.

I used this DVD with my HP KEY version-- single language win 8. Has serveral variations to install windows. Choose that one that gets you installing without adding your key at the time, perhaps generic trial. Then once installed you use your OEM KEY on the ACTIVATE PAGE under pc settings located on the charms bar. Had no problems. In fact, I am running the Single language 8.1 with my oem key right now as I am typing this.
If you can't find your key, I have a key reader that will get it for you , it is standalone program that needs no installation.
