Windows 8 Consumer Preview installation problem on Sony Vaio VPCEB46FG

    Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio E Laptop Series: VPCEB46FG (i5+4GB RAM+500GB HD). I have genuine Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it when i bought it.
I have downloaded the Windows 8 Consumer Preview .iso file and made a DVD out of it.

When i boot the windows for installation from the dvd and start installing Windows 8 the installations gets stuck on 'Expanding Windows files(1%)' step. I have waited till hours but it doesn't move further.
I've done this by installing a it to another drive. I've also tried installing from the setup in DVD after inserting the disk in win 7 but there also it gets stuck on 30% completion and doesn't move further.
Please help me out installing Windows 8 on my laptop. What should i do now?

Ehhhh, there are many ways, but the simplest way to guarantee success is to boot to USB stick to install. Once the computer reboots the first time, and while it is rebooting, just remove the USB stick from the machine.

Or, if you are feeling adventurous, this method definitely works well as I have successfully applied it myself:

How did you setup your Win 8 install?

I created a Bootable DVD to install windows 8..
And I've tried every possible way to install listed below but same problem evrytime:
    1. Inserted Bootable DVD, Restarted and then Started installation.
    2. Inserted Disk while in Win 7, and Started installation by clicking on the setup.exe in SOURCES folder.
    3. Fresh Installation in a clean partition i made it just for Win8.

But everytime i install it gets stuck and I've waited till hours but it still remains at 1% completion of Copying Windows file step and doesn't move further.
I also tried this on another Sony Vaio (VPCCB155B) .. Same Problem..

The DVD is bootable. Have you tried setting the BIOS to boot from DVD first and seeing if it installs OK that way. From memory you would have to click custom install and make sure you click the small "advanced" option. Then pick your partition (make sure you get it right or you WILL overwrite W7) and see how it goes.

I've done that on my Acer and it dual boots OK although there are other issues for me... but it does or should work.

    Yep, what Mooly said.

If you still have the copying issue, then follow my second posted method that I linked to. Make a new Primary NTFS partition on your HDD, after shrinking the original. Acronis does this well.

Then just use imagex to install as shown. Works a treat and the Windows installer never even comes into play at all. It's not used.

Later on, if you're satisfied with Win 8, you can easily delete the original Win 7 partition and have just 8. You would need a little help though because of the boot files. It's not hard though.
