Hello to all,
I have just put together a box with an Athlon X2 processor and 4 GB Ram. Got Ubuntu 64 bit installed on it, but since I have been wanting to try Windows 8 preview, I was wondering if I can get the downloaded iso burned on a DVD to install and wipe off the Ubuntu? Nothing to loose per se. Can anyone advise or suggest or just give an opinion? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, simple. Just copy any important files to somewhere else like a network drive or USB stick first. If you copied to USB stick, remove it from the machine after.

Boot to Gparted software: GParted -- Download

Use Gparted to delete all partitions and make one Primary NTFS partition. Alternatively, set it up how you wish.

Boot to the Windows 8 installer DVD you've burned (or will burn) and install Windows.

No need of Gparted, just throw the Windows 8 DVD and delete all the Linux partition with it.

A previous unformated drive what you means by that ? .... from the experiment i just did, it work in hard drive with an OS before, and The other day I install it on a new drive .

GMan I read it fast, they was trying to make a dual boot system, and place the Windows 8 on a secondary partition. From what I can see the OP want to wipe the Ubuntu and he seems to have nothing to save.

With VM it's easy to run a test, I just make a copy of one of my Ubuntu VM and I smash it with Windows 8

Thanks GMan,
I tried to boot the DVD with the downloaded ISO and it just ran and eventually booted to Ubuntu. Will give it a shot thanks!

Howdy and thanks for the response. For some reason, the installer program DVD just ran and ran and the hard drive ran and after 5 minutes or so it booted into Ubuntu. I will most certainly try again. Thanks for the help and the test.
Cheers

Hello and thanks to all that have responded! It is now running. Don't have a clue how to use it, but it is running. It is noticeably faster than the Ubuntu 64 bit that was on it. Where are the tutorials on how to find the control panel {:))!

Howdy Gman,
Loads of laughs today. Got myself stuck in and endless loop of safe booting into cmd.exe. Finally figured out how to get back to normal boot. Booted, neither account would run...... Did a refresh, same results. Did a fresh install and added a few of my normal programs and decided to run the sfc /scannow, figuring it should work. Nope, corrupt files. Found control panel and lots of neat stuff. Makes the old box run fast, but.......
L8tr and again thanks!

Been running two days without having to reinstall! sfc /scannow is giving me the thumbs up sign, I run it after every to me dodgy operation! Of course I am cleaning the trash out with the windows explorer > right click on C: drive and open properties > use built in disk cleaner. Using diskdefrag just pops up a cmd.exe box with something in it and disappears in a second!!! I am afraid to use my favorite CCleaner.... as I might delete something necessary. The remove program in Control Panel works about as good as in W7, the reason I purchased Revo Uninstaller Pro. Also am using on old 14" Sylvania monitor which doesn't help. But hey it runs pretty fast. Thanks again to all who helped!
