    ASUS Recovery partition

    Hi All,

I've read a lot of posts and a little confused. I upgraded ASUS S400CA to 8.1 . I just need to create a recovery disk with the option of copy from recovery partition which is graded out as many of you know. Can you please provide me with the steps of what I will have to do to create a USB drive which will hold the image and when I want to restore the laptop to original settings I can use that USB drive.

    Thanks in Advance!

See this tutorial to create a recovery drive on a usb drive. It is more of a repair option but in some cases would give you access to an OEM recovery but that is dependent on the recovery partition remaining intact.

Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8

Another option is to create a system image of your computer using a program like Macrium Reflect (Free) in the event of a failure.

I think something is wrong with the recovery drive after 8.1 upgrade since it does not allow me to select the option of copying from recovery partition. This is so confusing. Hp Toshiba have a nice software to restore to factory settings.

Quite often the factory recovery partitions get corrupted after updating to 8.1 from 8.0

You could order the recovery disks from Asus for a nominal charge.

So what i basically since my recovery partition is corrupted , the best way to get back the recovery partition and to create a USB recovery flash drive after that. I saw some posts which suggest to download partition guru software for accessing some files which would help restoring the recovery parition. Does someone please give the steps here.

Once the recovery partition has been changed or resized, it is of no value and cannot be restored. Your only alternative is to order the recovery discs from Asus.

    Nucii,

I did not do anything to the recovery partitionl. This is a new laptop and all I did was to update it to 8.1. If that's the end of creating a recovery disk i will rather just return the laptop.

We need the results of a reagentc /info command run in an Administrative Command Prompt, and a picture of your Disk Management window.

If the reagentc /info command will not run, try running a reagentc /enable, then the /info again.

In order for the Recovery Drive to be able to copy over the Recovery partition, it has to be registered, but yours is not. In the line that mentions Recovery Image location, there needs to be a location identified and then an Index for that image.

Without the Disk Management picture, I do not know if you even have a Recovery Image partition.

But to register the partition, you will have to put a drive letter on it with Diskpart. Then find the path and index number of the Factory image, and then use Reagentc.exe to register the image.

Some of the other threads have gone through the process and include pictures !! I will try to find you one and supply the link later.

    Too many recovery partitions?
