    Windows 8 Bootloader

My apologies if this as been asked already. I'm surprised there isn't more information on this on Google. I am dual booting Windows 7 and Windows 8 on their own partitions. I would like to add Ubuntu on a third partition. Three questions:

My understanding is that Grub will not pick up Windows 8 and Windows 7, only Windows 8. Is this correct?

If I select Windows 8 in Grub, will it give me the Windows 8 bootloader which includes Windows 7; and

Is there anyway to install Ubuntu into the Windows 8 bootloader?

I never had luck with Easybcd, but that might be an option, but would prefer not to. Also, I don't care for any kind of VM setup. Any and all info would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I haven't played with *nix in a long time but this will help you add a *nix OS to the Windows 8 boot loader and do all sorts of other wonderful things without having to resort to getting all command happy:

I triple booted XP, Win 7 and Ubuntu using Grub. Every time I tried EasyBCD, thing would never work. I hear there is a beta for Win 8 but I have my doubts it will work as this software is wildly unreliable.

I've used it well on multiple machines from within and for Windows 8. I honestly have never seen anyone label it as unreliable before, even considering the countless scenarios I've seen it applied to.

What advise can you give me to make the scenario I propose work? It has been two years since I last tried EasyBCD.

I use it quite a bit, and helped a little with testing the newer version.

Only ever used the windows functions - so can't advise directly.

There is a wiki page at easy with instructions

Thanks for that. They go into a dual boot option, but not a triple boot option. I guess my question is would EasyBCD would be installed in Windows 8? When installing Ubuntu, what do I do with Grub ?

I have never had luck with this software - sorry if my questions are on the simple side.

    Hello

I didn't tried it in Windows 8 but on Ubuntu website you can download the installer of ubuntu from within windows.

    Download | Ubuntu

This way it uses the windows bootloader instead of grub. Ubuntu is added in the windows software list "add remove programs" in control panel and can be uninstalled from within windows.

Yup, that is one way when it works, lol. Seriously some have problems with WUBI (like me).

    slopechz,

    You're right.
It worked until I had to reboot. Then it hangs (permanently) at copying files. Not good. We'll see if they fix it in later versions but for now, I'm not really sure what will work better than easybcd.

    Thanks
