Create a bootable Install disk

Hi

I just bought a Laptop with W8.1 it does not come with an install disk and the supplier flat-out refused to provide one,
pointing me to the recovery partition saying that was all I needed.

The recovery program just reinstalls, losing data and does not have Windows trouble shooting options
as found on the W8 install disk.

How do I create a W8.1 install disk.

Thanks

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

It would be recommend to go ahead and create a Recovery Drive to have handy if you should ever need to do a factory reset.

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5132-recovery-drive-create-usb-flash-drive-windows-8-a.html

For what you wanted, it may be best to use a 3rd party program like Macrium Reflect to create a system image. This image can be used to restore everything as it was when created.

Hope this helps, :)

Hi Shawn

I will create a recovery system and I use Casper 8 to do a clone of my hard drive, but on occasions the Casper clone is done after the trouble is there and using the clone as a backup is counter productive, last time I had this problem I did a "repair" install of W8 using my Install Disk.

Using that disk is not an option here as the Laptop will be used in a different location.

Are you saying there is no way to create a bootable Install Disk?

Regards

Daniel

Hi Shawn

Casper 8 does have a boot disk that includes a recovery option, but if the copy is damaged there is no point,
also System restore does not always work.

In the past I have always resorted, successfully to an install disk.

regards

Daniel

Yeah, it's a combination of all these options that help to keep you safe. You hope a system restore may help, but when it doesn't you'll have the system image.

You might give Macrium Reflect a play with to see how you like it since it has a bootable rescue disk option that you could use if Windows will not boot.

Yes there is another way, borrow a copy from someone, or download an ISO off of torrent. Goggle for the Generic install key and activate with your Windows 8 key. Or just purchase a copy. MS & Manufacture don't want you to have a copy and expect you to use there recovery partition it sucks but we all have to deal with it.

Yep, but I would recommend to avoid illegal torrent copies since they could include malware with them.

Newegg sells Win8.1 Pro for what I paid for XP Pro. $139
