Installed my new SSD

Just finished installing my new SSD that was cloned with Macrium Reflect v5. Except for a few minor problems everything went OK. The first problem was Macrium Reflect wouldn't allow me to clone to a smaller drive. I had to shrink my C partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard. My second problem was booting the computer with the SSD. The computer booted to a screen that said (Checking Media Presence. Media Present. Start PXE over IPV6.) I asked myself "OK, What did I do wrong?" Than I got thinking maybe the computer was still looking for the old HDD that I removed. I wasn't sure what key to press to select what drive to boot from so I kept hitting different F keys until I got a screen that sad to hit escape to select boot drive. I hit escape and chose the SSD, rebooted and computer and went right to my boot screen. To quote Mr. Smith; "I love it when a plan comes together!"

I upgraded my laptop to SSD's a while ago. Best money I ever spent on hardware. I plan on doing the same to my desktop in a couple of weeks.

It was actually went easier than I thought it would be. I know very little about UEFI and GPT so I was expecting the worse. This is the second computer I upgraded to a SSD. The first one was running Windows 7 with MBR and Bios.

I ended up doing a clean install. Cloning didn't work for me. I tried imaging too. I now have nice clean unmodified ISO's so it will be a clean install on my desktop to when the time comes. I game on my desktop so it will be a 256 GB SSD for it. My laptop has a 128 GB SSD for Windows and a 256 GB SSD for Data. I don't game on it so space isn't an issue. Some of the games I play eat up a lot of hard drive space. I just Installed Wolfenstien The New Order on my desktop PC , it was a 4 DVD set. My laptop has UEFI but my older desktop doesn't. It doesn't really change how I do the install much, it just effects how I make my install thumb drives.

I went with 240 GB SSDs for both computers. So far a 240 GB SSD for Windows and a 1TB HHD for data is working perfect.
