I have now tried twice to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Each time I have got to (what I thought would be) the final screen only to have it tell me that "something went wrong" (no error code!) - please restart the installation. Which I can't because there is no mouse pointer and it will not even accept Enter for the OK response. Nothing. (Not that I am sure I want to restart the installation anyway after a wasted hour and a half - twice). Not counting the downloading time.
So I turned the computer off and on again and it tells me it is reverting to my previous Windows (Windows 8).
So how do I get this process to work??
I have my Microsoft name and password and (several) security codes. It would not accept the latest security code I had so I asked for a new one - which I got from another computer since mine was in a frozen state waiting for the code to be entered (!). I entered that and all appeared to be well as I entered various options as and when requested - then it all crashed at the end.
The only "error code" I have is 0x8007042B - 0x4001F which appeared in a screen that told me that we have reverted to Windows 8.
What am I missing? What do I have to do to get this to work.
I would give up and stick with Windows 8 except that I have read that 8.1 will fix some of the things I dislike about Windows 8.
Or I could just go buy an Apple computer!
