Hi Guys, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been running this system since 2010 win7 and upgraded to win 8.

When I switched over to win 8 I also bought an ssd drive (C) and it seemed to be working fine ever since.

I recently bought a couple 3TB drives and wanted to replace the old HDD (F), installed the drives, transferred all data off F and then shut down the pc. I took F out of the pc and it won't boot

Going from loads of tutorials on here I found that F was listed as active and a system drive

Any attempts at making it inactive and activating C resulted in nothing. I used my startup repair disc but there was no OS listed to repair??

Whenever C is active and F inactive, I've no options at all with startup repair

Been trying to fix this for the past 6 hours, beginning to bang my head on the desk now! :p

Let me know if there's any other info you need!

This is my hunch that when you install Windows 8, you did not set your SSD boot priority to be the first in BIOS, With normal Windows 8 installation, it will create a 350MB system reserved partition to store the Windows Boot Manager as shown below.

Since you did not do that. Windows installation will grab an active disk and put it there and treated as your reserved partition. In your case, it is drive F: and If you put F: drive back in, turn on to view hidden file, you would see the files and folder below:

So taking out the F: drive, there's is no boot manager to boot your Windows.

Here's what I have as you said, have I got anyway of moving these to another drive or hopefully make a partition on C for them?

First you need to mark the SSD Active. Unplug all HD's except the SSD and use startup repair to see if it can add the boot manager to C:

Managed to fix it after a good sleep and with fresh eyes.

I copied the system files over from F to another partition I made on the SSD and then ran through bootrec commands on it and all's better!

Thanks for the help topgun :)
