Is there a way to boot and start with the desktop instead of Metro?

I wouldn't disagree with most of that.

That will certainly be allowed in the ACTUAL PRODUCT
Perhaps it will - I am pretty sure they originally had no intention of doing so.

If they do - and it is a big if - it will only be because so many have complained so loudly.

Common sense dictates that I believe this and it is true.

Besides, isn't there a 6 letter word to add on to "Metro" that is kinda, well....nevermind.

It's not a question of not being able to deal with Metro, it's a question of not wanting to deal with Metro. The 'Fisher Price' interface is fine for those using their PCs, for nothing more than social media, one application at a time. It adds nothing in the overall all scheme of things, apart from one additional layer to navigate. There are a lot of good things in Windows 8, certainly enough for many to consider it an important upgrade, unfortunately, Metro isn't one of them.

How is that. It is just a Start menu - only a little bigger. And you get it as default when you boot - don't even have to click for it to show up. And from there, everything is the same (in terms of number of clicks). You just don't want to admit defeat - LOL.

I got rid of it in winpe 4 - couple of minor side effects - pin to taskbar and openwith not working.

The important stuff you would want in pe seems to be ok.

I have to agree with Wolfgang. I find the new Start page easier to use then the old Start menu. A lot easier to customize and easier to find programs. It could stand a cosmetic makeover, but that will come. As far as the Desktop it only takes one click and you are there. To some that is such a problem they are going to Linux. I don't really care for the Rollover the corners for access but that's life.

It may only be one click, but it's one unnecessary click.

This thread is not about those who like metro.

It is about trying to find a way to boot direct to main ui - avoiding playschool along the way.

No point in trying to tell people they are right or wrong - let each use their own machine the way they like.
