I have a new HP envy t215 desktop with intel I7 Processor on a Megatrends MB with an EFI partition. The computer came with windows 7 pro but I want to temporally installWindows 8.

I want to remove the hard drive with Windows 7 Pro and insert a new 1TB Sata drive for a fresh install of windows 8. I have an almost new 1TB Sata WD hard drive formatted GPT/NTFS.I have completely wiped the hard drive. I will have to have the EFI partition on the windows hard drive.

The real question is will the windows 8 OEM software create the correct partitions when the system is installed.I know I need the EFI partition and the operating system partition at a minimum.

Anyone have the answer

Thanks

Hello rdesign, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since this is an OEM Windows 8, you will not be able to activate it on a computer other than the one that it was originally installed and activated on. Is this what you are trying to do? :(

No, this is a fresh copy of windows 8 with a Microsoft key, and has never been installed. I already spoke with
Microsoft and they say that it will be fine.

Do you have an answer for my original post. I am just not sure about the EFI system partition. Will the new windows
install disk create the partition

Thanks

Ok, good.

It all depends on if your motherboard has a UEFI firmware chip or not.

If not, then you will not be able to install Windows 8 with UEFI, but you can still install Windows 8 without UEFI like in the tutorial below.

OR

If so, then you will be able to install Windows 8 with UEFI like in the tutorial below.
