I tried this option. I checked the option to "copy content from the recovery partition to the recovery drive". I used a 16GB thumb drive. When i try to use it on the PC with the new hard disk. It starts the recovery and then asks me for an image.
How much space was used on the thumb drive? If I remember correctly the image is in a wim file.

Then you can use the standard Refresh/Restore? to put you back to as shipped from the factory.
How do i use the standard Refresh/Restore? I do not need to back up the whole drive with all the programs installed. Only want to restore the factory image.

Oh! good question. I need to check how much space was used. I remember when i was browsing around the thumb drive when it asked me to locate the image file, i remember seeing three wim files. Tried to click around but they didn't work.

    Thanks for your help.

The image can be split up. If the thumb drive is formatted in the FAT 32 file system there is a 4 gig max file size limit. I've only ever tried to do what your doing once and failed miserably. I swapped the factory drive in my laptop with a smaller SSD. Trying to do a reset from my recovery thumb drive failed no matter what I tried. I even tried recreating some of the partitions. My original drive was 750 GB and my SSD was only 128 GB so that didn't help things. I just gave up and did a clean install. I was able to use my embedded OEM key in my BIOS so activation wasn't an issue for me afterwards.
