How can i upgrade from OEM 8.1 to MAK 8.1 Pro?

A while back I purchased a computer that had Windows 8, I then upgraded it to 8.1 when the update came out.

Through work I have been given permission to us one of the MAK keys we have for 8.1 Pro/Enterprise, and trying to use "Windows Anytime Update" says I cannot upgrade using the key. I don't want to install over everything or upgrade using the install CD as it usually messes things up... Is tehre an easy way to upgrade from a OEM base version to a MAK Pro/Enterprise edition?

You will need to use a generic Pro VL key to upgrade first - Google KMS client set up keys - MAK's are for activation only.

I also have a KMS key for it... MS Gives you both in the VL Service site, but neither work.

Sorry forgot yo mention, OEM PC's have single editions thus Pro will not be available through that path - only way is through separate media AFAIK.

If I "find" a OEM key that workd for the upgrade (gets me to 8.1 pro) can I upgrade to a MAK afterwards?

Haven't done that myself... so not sure - I prefer clean installs anyway;)

From what I have read, its not a regular upgrade, its a switch of versions, from one to the other and it installs the missing features... I prefere base install to and don't want to do a generic upgrade. But as Windows 8.1 has the ability to easily upgrade within itself, its an option I don;t mind doing... will have to see if i can swap key afterwards. Will post the results.

UPDATE - It worked, used a generic Win 8.1 offline activation key that I "Found", did the Windows Anytime Upgrade, afterwards it told me the key was invalid (duh), changed the key to my valid MAK key and VOILA, Fully functional Win 8 Pro.

Just for future reference, the KMS key is used on a KMS server to activate it, which more or less allows "it" to activate additional copies of Windows. Therefore, you never put a KMS key directly on one of your Windows 8 clients. KMS is for Key Management Server.

As you found out, you need the MAK (which is a multiple activation key).
