Solved Can't create a new partition or locate an existing one

Hello all, I have a new Asus X102BA it has modest performance so as I have a spare OCZ 120GB ssd I thought I would see if it could be improved. I have tried to install win 8 Pro using a powered DVD drive but I get the message in my title. The primary partition is shown on screen and I have nothing but the DVD drive plugged into the computer

Could you expand some on the situation you are describing? Such as, is the SSD the only drive on the computer now? Are you installing in the UEFI configuration and did you boot to that?

Going through your procedure, step by step, might help someone see the problem.

Hello and thanks, I replaced the installed hard drive with the ssd, I then connected a powered dvd drive to a usb connector with the windows 8.1 pro disc in it and booted from it in the normal way. When I get to the screen that shows the primary partition it is there with a small reserved partition (MBR). The computer selects the primary partition but when I click NEXT I get the error message, there is nothing else connected. I don't know what UEFI means

You must delete all partitions to be able to install Windows on GPT partition style.

Delete all partitions until you only see "Drive 0 Unallocated Space".
