Hi!

Ever since wednesday and the release of the consumer preview have I struggled with getting windows 8 installed. My setup is a Acer Aspisre 6930 with 2 drive bays, I have one SSD of 120GB with my Win7 on it and one HDD with other data and now also a partition of 62GB which I have tried to install Win 8 onto, among other attempts and locations.

Firstly I downloaded the ISO and made a bootable USB, booted from it, or rather tried, but got the message that has followed me throughout these days: BOOTMGR IMAGE IS CORRUPT

As I'm no noob, no major noob a least, I understood that the download could have been corrupted, re-downloaded using both normal download and the win 8 setup downloader that microsoft presented with this release. No luck boooting from USB or from DVD, I get the same message every time. I have tried several different combinations of iso-files, dvds and 3 different USB-sticks.

So I have tried other things, like installing from within Win7, and over Win7 which led to that I managed to format my disk and I had no OS at some point, and no usable recovery image, tho I'm back at Win7 on my SSD now, with a working recovery image.

When I manage to get the installation going of win 8, it goes to the point or restart and then gives me the message I now hate more than anything: BOOTMGR IMAGE IS CORRUPT

Can anybody help me here? Do you need any additional information then I'll provide it quick.... Please help, I would like to install Win 8 on my SSD, but I can live with a dual boot as well....

Question, what did you use to make a bootable USB drive or disk?

Yes I think it worked for most people. Might be something wrong with the iso's, so i am about to finish a torrent download of the iso now and going to check the hash sum to be sure that it is correct.

I would try that, I got my copy from a torrent because downloading it from the Microsoft site would had taken the rest of this decade! :p

Yep, good idea. Let us know how it goes.

Guess I was lucky, took me 4.5 hours only to download, not bad considering our DSL speed. :D

The download returned the wrong hash sum. Will try from microsft again. But I must have downloaded maybe 10 iso files now, and while I have checked all of them, it is weired that not one would work.

I mean, if I use the downloader program that microsft provides then it goes through some file checking, I even got a corrupted download message a couple of times, this is making me pretty furious... Why want it work???

I now have a iso with correct hash sum. Tried to make an bootable usb with the windows tool, but when I tried to boot I got the same bootmgr image is corrupt.

Anybody have any clever ideas to what I can do?

Further development:

I have now tried to boot from a dvd which is burned from a ISO with correct sha1 hash sum. This dvd booted fine in my girlfriends PC, but I'm not installing win8 there.

But this same dvd does not boot on my computer, after choosing to boot from dvd I get the same error: bootmgr image is corrupt

But as I write this, I'm restoring win7 through a win7 dvd burned on a identical dvd as my win8 dvd. And it booted with no problem.

I am out of variables and I'm wondering if any of you have any clues to why I can't seem to boot from either a dvd, usb or sfter making an installation within win7?

Please help me out here!

Can I install just the win8 bootloader?

Maybe if it is installed first then I can install win8 after that and be able to boot after installation?
