Sorry, that should have been step 13 in Option Four instead. I missed updating this when I updated the other tutorial.

    For sure?
I haven't confirmed it myself, but I've seen at least one forum member mention they had all the update 1 features after doing the Store Upgrade to 8.1. Without doing any other updates.

Also heard of problems with some start menu customizers.
I read to check the drivers as well and I think it includes instructions to do so. I have no idea what 3rd party programs and 3rd party AVs are. Can you explain, please.
Third party programs like Start 8, or other customizing programs that change default settings.
Third party antivirus programs that stay resident, other than Windows Defender ( Avast, AVG Norton, Kasperski etc).
Hi, just confirming that my Norton 360 has to be disabled before I start the 8.1 upgrade, right?

Can I run the "Microsoft Upgrade Assistant" just to check to see if windows 8 meets the requirements for upgrading to 8.1 without having to continue the upgrade program? I'm confused because in one article that I've read, it says after the upgrade assistant program is finished finding nothing wrong you will be directed to Windows Store to start the process. I don't want to start the actual upgrading, I just want to see results of checking my computer.

    Thanks

Afterwards, you would just keep checking and installing all of your Windows Updates to eventually update to Windows 8.1 Update.
    Hope this helps,

Shawn, when I updated my laptop with Windows 8 on it, when the Store got through, I had the April 8 Windows 8.1 Update, although I didn't have KB9219355. I think I may have been one of the first to have this happen, but it seems as if MS has included Windows 8.1 Update with the upgrade to Windows 8.1 . . .

It does, Alpha, it does! My laptop got all the way updated to Windows 8.1 Update in one fell swoop!

That's normal. When you update via the Store, the Windows 8.1 Update is installed directly using an image instead of the updates.

Sure, Juliet. However, if your computer came with Windows 8 on it, you're probably good to go. Never hurts to confirm things, though.

BTW, when I upgraded my Windows 8 laptop to Windows 8.1 on April 8 (could have been April 9), I got the whole shebang! Lappy now has Windows 8.1 Update and is very proud of herself, since she was one of the first to get the latest and greatest!

That's a good thing to do, it's not 100% sure but it's a good start. There's one expressly for 8.1. Also check in advance if your drivers are up to date before upgrading, Maybe you should also make a complete system backup beforehand or at least important data.
