Using Win 8 on Virtual Machine and says no 64-Bit support

Hi

Iam using Windows Virtual PC which was a 64-Bit version I installed, I got XP Home 32-Bit installed via it perfectly and tried to install Windows 8 x64 AND THEN Windows 8.1 x64 but on both I got the BSOD (in the Virtual Machine) almost straight away saying 64-bit CPU is not supported?

ive read this may be due to not having VTx but I do as my CPU is a 3470 (Ivy Bridge) and SIW says its enabled as does BIOS

Iam testing some Windows ISO's to check to make sure they are OEM and ask for product key during install but also to diagnose a WSUS Offline issue in windows 8 that reverses all updates right at the end saying there was a problem, the software creator needs a log and I aint got time at work.

can anyone help with this or advise of better virtual machine software (noob)

What is your host operating system? Your specs say Windows 8 - is that true? Are you really running Virtual PC on Windows 8? Is it 8 or 8 pro - 32 or 64 bit?

Assuming you are running windows 8 you can only run one type of virtualisation software at the same time.

Generally VMWare Player is the easiest (I think) and it is free from here https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/free#desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_player/6_0

Disable Hyper-V first if you have it enabled or it will not work.

no i have windows 7 pro 64 bit - not changed specs in a while

You may want to update the specs on your profile then - it just says OS Windows 8.

Did you try using VMware player or virtualbox? If your CPU supports VTx and it is turned on in the bios in my experience you only get this message if something else has assigned the feature (usually this is Hyper V on Windows 8). I can't remember windows 7 but do you have Hyper V installed?

ive been told on your sister forums (7) that Windows Virtual PC does not support 64-Bit clients At all...so i need to use VMware - will try it tonight after work
