W8.1 Enterprise update - clean install required

    Hi there
Fortunately I'd backed up my system - but W8.1 Enterprise update has MISLEADING instructions.
If you run the setup from OUTSIDE windows the iso) (I.e boot and choose CUSTOM ) it tells you to run the setup again FROM WITHIN WINDOWS.

THen there's no upgrade path -- you can save personal files but that's it -- brand new install.

So disappointed - but have restored by old image.

Maybe W8.1 pro will upgrade but 8.1 Enterprise seems to force a new install. -- I'm sure "Enterprise customers" will just like that especially if they've just installed W8.1 a few months ago.

If there is a way to upgrade an existing W8.1 enterprise system to the new version without doing a complete re-install please post.

    (Note ENTERPRISE --not PRO).

    Cheers

You could try fiddling with cversion.ini.

Perhaps renaming it to cversion.ini.old will do the trick

The update only files are available on TechNet. Do it that way. There are 6 KB updates in the package and a ReadMe that tells you what order to apply them in.

    Hi there
I must be going Blind or something --I couldn't find the files you are referring to -- would be glad of a link.
Normally I don't mind re-installing - but THIS TIME I just want to update --too much of a hassle to re-install everything.

    Here's what I see for W8.1 Enterprise

    Cheers

They put the update only in its own section. Go to TechNet then subscriber downloads. In the Top Products list under Windows you should see.
Windows 8.1 Update New! <You want this one
    Windows 8.1 with Update New!
Windows 8.1 Enterprise with Update New!

EDIT: If you go Products A-Z and select W, its listed as "Windows 8.1 Update"

Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Update (x64) - (Multiple Languages) is the one you want.

Ms Round and round we go -- Big boo bo W8.1 update

    Hi there

Windows Enterprise 8.1 can't upgrade to the new W8.1

You go round and round in circles

    1) Install by booting from DVD - to upgrade it says start from WITHIN Windows

    2) Staring from WITHIN windows - no upgrade option offered.

    Screenshots enc

What next !!! - Can't see businesses going through this rigmarole.

    Note WINDOWS ENTERPRISE version.

    Cheers

I applied the leaked version on my laptops Enterprise install a while ago. No issues that I am aware of.
