How To Do A Fresh Windows 8 Pro Install On 8.1 System?

Hello All,

I am currently running Windows 8.1 and I want to do a clean install back to Windows 8. I have the original 64-bit Windows 8 Pro DVD. I put this DVD into my DVD drive and rebooted. I then went into the BIOS and made sure the first boot device was set to DVD/CDROM.

When I restart my computer it never gives me the option of booting to the DVD it just takes me back to the Operating System (my login screen).

My question is, how do I get my system to bootup from the Windows 8 Pro DVD so that I can do a fresh install?

Thank you.

Jan :D

Hi Jan, what kind of machine are you using....
... when your boot screen flashes upon restart, is there any indication of which Fkey to press for boot menu?

Hello Edwin. I am running a custom built PC that is about 2 years old. When my computer boots I have the option of pressing F12 for the boot menu then I can choose (among other things) the CD/DVD drive. When I do this it still takes me back to the operating system/login screen.

Is it possible that my Windows 8 DVD that I purchased from Best Buy (when Windows 8 first came out) is not a bootable DVD?

Thank you.

Jan

DVD being un-bootable? I suppose it's possible. Does the disc have these items on it?:

Yes it does. I also tried my old Windows 7 installation CD and my system was still not booting up from the CDROM. I guess there is a problem with my motherboard/bios that is preventing me from booting to CDROM?

From within Windows, do you see the data on the DVD drive? I've had these optical drives just die before.

Yes I do. But I just figured it out (I think) :).

I had do change AHPI (?) to IDE in my bios then it gave me the option to boot from the CD-ROM.

yeah make sure you change it back to AHCI or you will suffer huge performance loss
