    Problem with Windows 7 Dual-Boot with 8

    Hello all,
The day the Windows 8 consumer preview came out I installed Windows 8 on a 40GB partition, dual-boot setup with my current Windows 7. Everything was peachy, until Windows 8 started to run slowly and I discovered I'd installed some incompatible programs and drivers. So I used Windows 8's Refresh tool and the original USB drive to refresh the Windows 8 installation, and everything was peachy.

When it was done, it booted into Windows 8 and I saw that my Win7 partition (D) was still there, so I figured everything was fine and peachy. Except, now when I boot up I have no Windows 7 option whatsoever. It doesn't even show as a bootable drive.

I still have the files, so it's not an urgent crisis, but I'd rather get off beta, unsupported software ASAP and get Win7 back for my day-to-day use. How can I do this? A clean install of Windows 7 is NOT an option for me unless it's the single only way forward.

The problem is the boot entry right ?
So use EasyBCD to add your 7 partition to boot menu again.

~after that you will have the old style boot menu~

I tried that. I right-clicked on the boot entry list and selected 'Create Missing Windows Loaders' - it created a windows 7/vista loader, but then didn't boot, it only showed a black screen when I selected that option in the Win8 boot loader.

After several boot ups of a black screen (computer running, that's all), and then forced shutdowns the computer booted into Windows 8 again. Did something in EasyBCD go wrong?

Pardon me...I haven't tried EasyBCD...I tried the tool Visual BCD Editor. Looking into EasyBCD now.

Just add a new entry pointing to the correct partition and if it's the case repair boot files in EasyBCD

Replying to this from my 7 partition - worked like a charm. Now I want to figure out why the first BCD program didn't work.
