    dual boot not happening

I tried to set up a dual boot, W8.1 and Linux Zorin 8 on a new Lenovo desktop. I setup the partition first in Windows and then loaded Zorin per the instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73APmLYHATw. Everything seemed to go OK but in the end I didn't end up with the grub boot loader, so I can only boot into Windows. Now I ended up loosing 20% of my hard drive which is now unallocated space that I can't figure out how to reclaim into my hard drive. I tried deleting the partition but it's still there and there was no option to expand volume.

You were aware when you went through the install, the instructions were for a Legacy configuration of Windows 8? Does the Lenovo have a Legacy or UEFI configuration?

The Mint install probably placed a small 1 MB partition on your drive if you have the UEFI configuration. Since you seemed to have removed the install, you might check the Boot Device Menu when you boot to see what is available. The Mint boot option may have been there earlier.

I am in no way suggesting you use Legacy if you have the UEFI option.

If it does have the UEFI option, the install should put its boot files in the current EFI partition and show up as a Linux Boot Loader in the Boot Device Menu. That is a better way to go than using Grub, at least in my opinion.

Where is the boot device menu located, is it in the BIOS?

The Boot Device Menu can usually be accessed by a special key during the early part of the boot. Exactly how it works depends on your system.

Because the systems boot so fast now, I just boot into the bios using Del on the Asus Motherboard and select it from there.

This happened about two days ago. By going in chronological order: I used to have a dual-boot setup, a Windows 7 and Windows 8 on two different IDE 80GB hard drives, named Drive A and Drive B, respectively. Both of these hard drives are quite old, and I'm worried that it may be near the end of...
