You can only download what you are entitled to. Updates are not included. See here http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/18309-windows-8-windows-8-1-iso-download-create.html

I don't want no RTM or such as the ones offered on MDL
Why not? If you download a legitimate ISO from Microsoft then that is what you get.

Edit: For sure you will have to run Windows update after.

Why not?

1) that doesn't have the link for the ISO, it is the same setupbox which I mentioned for me, can never connect, with my product key it says it is not a valid product key coz it's a windows 8 pro key, with the default installation key, which worked in the past to download, now the setupbox always says cannot connect check your internet

2) because RTM meant final in the past. Seems like this has changed with Windows 8

Example: on MDL forums, they have the RTM 8.1.1 updates. god they are so buggy

when I installed them on a clean installed windows 8.1, right after every reboot, the system would freeze for like 1 minute before I can click anything. I'm not the only one, many users reported the same issue

another major problem is, the icons all appear blank/white. after like 4 mins or so, they all have the icon images again

that can in no way be an RTM (final) seems like a buggy beta to meh

8.1.1 is not released yet. Forget it - it is not interesting really unless you are an enthusiast.

Download the ISO (for 8.1 or 8 as you wish) from MS and then run windows update. Microsoft doesn't do rolling ISO of the latest version with patches applied. You download the RTM and then run Windows Update.

I'd not get a dodgy download when you can get the official one direct from Microsoft assuming you have a legitimate key. If you don't have a key this is the wrong forum to ask about it.

this is the whole issue I'm saying man. I have a genine key of windows 8 Pro EN-UK

now when I enter it in the WindowsSetupBox, it says key is not valid. I figured because the key is for Windows 8 not Windows 8.1

So I read online, and people suggest entering one of the default installation keys, when I do that, it accepts it, but then immediately tells me it cannot connect to the server, check your internet connectivity

seems like the windows setup box is either bugged, or now only works with a retail windows 8.1 key not a windows 8 key

Did you look at the link above? You need the generic 8.1 key to install but not to activate.

Of course I could be wrong as for some reason my key has somehow migrated from being OEM to retail. I initially had OEM 7 Pro then (paid for) upgrade to 7 Ultimate, then (paid for) upgrade to 8 Pro, then (free) to 8 pro + media center then clean installed 8.1.

I'm not sure now if my Windows 8 key is retail or OEM to be honest.

I'll have a look but I'm sure there are some threads here for OEM windows 8 users downloading 8.1 ISO.

my key is exactly like yours, I had 7 Pro before, then I purchased the upgrade for 14 USD

using the Windows 8 setupbox, I am able to use that key to download Windows 8 ISO, but now with the newer setup box for Windows 8.1, it says key is not valid

There are no GA pro iso files. Even the msdn are still rtm.

If you d/l via setupbox, that will download the installation files in .esd form, which do now contain the ga updates.

If you have an 8.0 key, you need to run 8.0 setup first, using your 8.0 key. As soon as it starts to download, close it. Then run the 8.1 setupbox. It will continue and d/l the 8.1 installation media. You should get an option to create an iso from those files after they have downloaded.

Apparently, there is new update coming in April. I expect that will be included in 8.1.1 or 8.2 or whatever they will call it setupbox download at some stage.

check the SHA then.

When you install 8.1 use the generic key to install and then use your 8 key to activate. You have the same type of key as me and that will certainly work.

Let us know if you have a problem - lots of people have done it. Good luck.

Take a look at those posts for more info.

RETAIL KEY ONLY.

How to download Windows 8.1 ISO with a Windows 8 key.
http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/33164-how-download-windows-8-1-iso.html

http://www.eightforums.com/installa...retail-windows-8-1-windows-8-product-key.html

You can not use the key extracted from the UEFI/BIOS firmware or a OEM key to download the Windows 8.1 ISO, you can only use the key to ACTIVATE.

The generic keys can only be used to install Windows 8.1 & not ACTIVATE or to download the Windows 8.1 ISO .

It is pretty easy to update the rtm iso. Just mount the image with dism and whack them in. You will find links to the .msu files easily enough.

If you want newer version of the bootable wims ( boot.wim and winre.wim ), you can update those yourself. or just grab them from volume editions ( which do contain the ga updates now ) strangely, the regular core/pro msdn iso has not been updated by MS.

But it is easier to just use Windows Update if you only have one PC.

EDIT - I did follow your ideas for bootable images and they were fabulous - just not sure if this is what the guy/girl is after.

The workarounds you were looking for are updated:
http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/34102-how-download-windows-8-1-clean-install.html

The Windows 8.1 downloader does not accept retail Windows 8.0 product keys but can be tricked into accepting them.
The Windows 8.1 downloader does not accept OEM Windows 8.0/8.1 product keys and cannot be tricked into accepting them. For the OEM install you need to find the .iso through unofficial means or purchase Windows 8.1 again or get a friend to give you a copy of their .iso.

The "We Can't Connect Right Now" error is a badly worded error causing users to misdiagnose problems. It essentially means that the product key is a Windows 8.1 key but Microsoft have blocked it from downloading, my guess is there is a download quota per key. The generic product key will lead to the same error. I would reword this as something like this:

“Your product key has been recognised as a Windows 8.0/8.1 Core/Professional Product Key however has been used to download Windows 8.0/8.1 Core/Professional too many times please contact the Microsoft Electronic Software Download Support for your region http://support.microsoft.com/gp/esd-support-phone-numbers

Unfortunately its probably far easier to download the RTM off MDL as Microsoft severely messed up the deployment of this service pack.
