I recently was given an old Laptop with Windows 7 on it. I'm unsure of the version due to it not giving me admin permissions so I formatted the hard drive and created 3 partitions.
I want to dual boot this system with Ubuntu and that seemed to be working, that is until after I installed Ubuntu and Windows 8 install disc wouldn't detect my hard drive and needed the drivers for it.
So I looked on the Lenovo support site and found my computer and model. But I ran into a massive problem of every single driver in .exe file type.
So booted up my old Windows XP install and installed it, I installed the drivers for xp just to make the experience easier. I ran into a problem though because when the drivers all extracted/installed to the c:\DRIVERS folder I copied the harddrive driver from winxp and win7. because theirs no released driver for windows 8.
Low and behold windows 8 still didn't accept or show anything after unhide the not supported list. Nothing was there at all.
I'm currently trying to install Windows 7 on it which is having problems due to it taking ages to load up the install after being prompted to press any key to boot cd/dvd.
I'm still waiting on the the black screen after nearly an hour and will have to turn it off in and hour if nothing starts because I have to get to my next class.
Lenovo Support - Drivers & Software (US) search thinkpad r61 and then select 8932.
Any help would be appreciated.
