Hey,

I got my new computer in December, and for some reason, even though it was brand new out of the box, it did not come with the Windows 8.1 Update. I'd like to update my computer to 8.1 to keep it updated, but every time I try to download the update via the Store, I get an error saying I am not logged in as an administrator, even though I am.

What should I do?

EDIT: Please let me know if I should put any screenshots, specs, etc.

Make sure your Windows 8 updates are up to date, before updating to Windows 8.1 & the OEM website for up to date drivers.

How should I check. I did make sure I had the KB2871389 update. Is there any other updates I should check for?

My other guess as to what's messing things up is the OEM installed antivirus? If its something other than Windows Defender try disabling it temporarily.

The computer came with McAffe, but once it ran out, It kept coming up with this annoying pop-ups so I removed it. I am using Windows Defender.

OK, that's good to hear. I was going over what was listed in the link I posted but it didn't really tell me much one way or the other. I was about to hunt up some old threads on the subject but it looks like I won't have to do that now. :thumb:

Are you logged in with a Live ID? Have you changed your UAC settings?
Local Account set a Administrator.

That may have something to do with it. Store Apps don't work when logged in with a local account, although I thought Microsoft waived that restriction for the 8.1 Store update.
You might find some info here, Update to Windows 8.1: FAQ - Microsoft Windows Help

I know this has already been solved but...

My mom got here laptop in October and I told her that the 8.1 update will have better security (It does) At the time, she did not have a Live ID and was using a Local. She could still install the update but then she told me she wanted a few apps like Iheartradio and The Weather Channel. I told her she needed a Live ID. You do NOT need a Live ID to get the 8.1 update.
