Windows 8 or 8.1 on Touch Screen Ultrabook

There's probably a sticky for this somewhere or something, but I can't find it, so here goes.

Just got a new laptop which came with windows 8, It's an Asus Zenbook UX302LG. I tried Windows 8 a bit during the developer preview, but I'm really not that familiar with things, anywho. So this has a touch screen, and I've been using it a fair bit, but I'm curious about 8.1. Being the "newer" version", from what I've seen it has some improvements over regular 8 in some areas, like the apps screen looks a little tidier. What I'm wondering though is does it also remove some of the touch features I would be using with a touch screen? Or just make them more mouse friendly. Long story short, given I have a touch screen which I am using, should I upgrade to Windows 8.1? Or will I have a better experience with regular 8?

You should upgrade IMO. You certainly will not lose any touch capabilities.

Features shown in Compare Windows 8.1 Editions where it says (new) are not available on 8.

I don't think you'll notice any differences as far as gestures go. Its the soon to be released update 1 for 8.1 that adds the mouse friendly features. As far as I can tell it doesn't remove any of the current touch features, it just gives you another way to do it. I like the updated Metro Start screen in 8.1, it is tidier and less cluttered.

I would xcheck for up to date drivers, before updating to Windows 8.1.

Okay well I updated and its a great improvement. I can see how the 8.1 update could help those with mice and keyboards, but it also does a lot for touch users - some things seem more intuitive, overall just a great upgrade, not really sure why its not just a normal windows 8 update.

It's not a normal update because it updates the kernel. 8.1.1 will be a normal update though (according to the gossip).

Microsoft wants to promote the Windows Store, having you go there for the update is just one way to do it. Also the update from 8.0 to 8.1 is more than your normal Windows Update or Service Pack. It's an OS upgrade.
