downgrade the bios in dos and the model I have came with no windows os
    thank you
Never had to do this myself so cant go into detail
however the general overview is as follows:
1 burn drivers/ bios in dvd
2 navigate to the the dvd drive in dos. Not sure what the drive letter would be for your system
    cd e:\
3 navigate to the bios dos folder again using the "cd" command and execute the .bat file

if you're unfamiliar with dos or having a hard time doing this, you can always install an evaluation version of windows 8 (available through microsoft), downgrade the bios, and then install win7

    thanks amohani

Hi, can someone please help me
I have burned the bios update to a cd-r as a data disk but when I try updating it with dos it can't find the files on the disk

I typed d: then "dir" it finds the folder name (which i named acer update) but no files
    says 0 files 1 dirs

was it right to burn them as a data disk or does it need to be something else?

    thanks for any help

    D:\drivers\bio dos>flash.bat
then I pressed enter is that what you mean by execute?

yep sounds like the bios flashing program ran for you. you can confirm if it worked by checking that your bios version changed to a4l in the bios settings

    Hi everyone

Firstly, a huge thanks to one and all. Have went through all the suggestions and bits and pieces and Ive hit a bit of a brick wall. Like someone said earlier, the application I need to run on these Acer xc-603s will run on Win 7 and not Win 8. As it stands, I bought a few of these PC's with freeDOS. I've downloaded the BIOS flash.bat from both the ebuyer site and amohani (many thanks). i can navigate via freeDOS to the flash bat file and execute it (with an aim of back dating the BIOS and then running a bootable Win 7. When executing, i get an error and the BIOS ver does not change...error

    [PMODE/W]: Abort: 00
    Exception: 0E
Error Code: 00000000 etc (see pic)

Ive been at this since first thing this morning and its a little taxing on the stress! :-)

anyways, anyone shed any light or point me in their direction, Id be forever thankful

How did you run it from the Command Prompt?

Hey Hector or Amohani, what's the command you type in the Command Prompt to get it to execute? I'm having trouble flashing while in windows.

Okay ... I was able to run the command from the DOS Prompt, but I get a response that tells me that the bios I'm trying to install is not compatible with the windows I'm running. Any way to get around that?

    all of them

Thanks to amohani! I just received 76 new AXC-603-UR10's at work, preloaded with Windows 8.1, and couldn't get them to downgrade. A few minutes with google led me to this thread, and I had Windows 7 on the first machine in no time!

I did have to use the video driver posted by dagman in post #59: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...?DwnldID=23885

I couldn't get the audio driver above to work. Audio was functional, but Windows only recognized a generic 'High Definition Audio Device', and I needed some of the functionality of Realtek's HD Audio Manager. The driver from this link worked for me:

Well, I got one and it eventually worked. Thanks to amohani for the tutorial, and to Cannon for the updated drivers.

    Tips:
    • The Windows method only worked for me when running the command in the batch file (afuwinx64.exe ..\ROM\Bios.rom /x /P /B /N /R /L) from an elevated command prompt.
    • To get to BIOS, hold DEL while booting. For the boot menu to work, you may need to enable F12 in the bios before that works. Then hold F12 while booting.

    Question:
    • Is it possible to get it to boot to the OEM Windows 8 install again? After disabling Secure Boot, there seem to be no options to reset or manage the Platform Key (PK), so can't enable secure boot, so can't boot to Windows 8. Would installing the "locked down" Acer bios flash, or a Windows 8 recovery or repair disk help, or is there some step I'm missing?...
      • (In my case, I replaced the drive with a larger one, but left the OEM one intact incase I want to sell it "like new" down the road.)
