Downgrade 8 to 7 on Acer Aspire AXC-603G-UW31 I Need Help!

Oh okay. As long as it's kept as a Home PC, it should be fine. Mine has a 1TB hard drive. Other people have mentioned theirs having a 500GB hard drive.

i have installed a SSD on my desktop and i can't ever go back now that i experienced the speed difference. put an SSD in that little puppy and you may actually enjoy using the ACER..hehe

I used to have that and that's why i know.

but anyway so did anyone ever actually get windows 7 on it or what??

Thats not going to work, there is no windows 7 drivers and the bios doesnt have csm, only way to do it is to get the modifed bios with the csm option that amohani posted earlier
That is not correct, that latest offical BIOS does have CMS support and is working. But you are correct that the windows 7 drivers are not on the ACER page, but youy can get the the drivers posted in this thread and once installed you can use the hardware ID to find more current drivers.
I downloaded the BIOS from the Acer site and it did not have CSM, the only Bios that worked for me was this modded bios posted by amohani

I also installed Windows 7 on this specific computer, You calling windows 8 windows 7 but better is just your opinion and doesn't belong on this forum, which clearly you don't understand the rules of, that's why you have a nice banned flag on your account. The modded bios works, and works flawlessly, that is how I installed it and how many people have...Microsoft may be trying to push people into using windows 8 but that is their only reason, while this way we have an option to choose.

but this thread is about wanting to install windows 7 on a specific ACER Aspire computer. Which oddly enough i happen to actually have.. I"m not using it, but i have it..

    Now,

    1. this person can't install it.. they have been told to try modded bios, upgrade bios, try this try that.. apparently they have to do something "special" to install a version of windows that this ACER company did "NOT" INTEND to be on this SPECIFIC "603g" Computer..

ok if you are clear on that.. and YOU are CLEAR on the rules of this forum,
that maybe installing windows 7 on a Acer Computer isn't exactly what Acer intended as quoted here:

called them and they blatantly refused to give it out and said Microsoft forbids any downgrading on the Aspire XC-603G along with the instalation of Non-Windows products.
now this will have to be followed up and confirmed, but if it's true, then Microsoft "forbids" it and what this post are asking for in this thread is illegal no?

    - Now i could care less what you do with you Acer Aspire, I am not going to call the microsoft police.. i truly don't care what you do with your "ACER Aspire" computer but seriously think about the trouble you are going to go through trying to install a modified bios then trying to find drivers for windows 7 which ACER didn't make, and all that just to have windows 7 on a cheap computer??

hey, do what you want it's not my system, but this is why i posted about "how" windows 8 is just windows 7 but better.. (well, atleast now that it has been patched.. ha.)

and if the users who knowingly bought an Acer Aspire computer with windows 8 on it would just accept that they bought a computer from a company that for whatever reason doesn't want windows 7 naturally on it.. i dont know why and don't care.. but thats why i didn't buy the acer in my home, (another family member did) It's just another computer for family to use.. (my family doesn't care if it's windows 7 or 8) so now you see why there is just a cheap acer aspire 603g computer in the house..

I don't get how y'all say that this computer is slow. It is not slow to us. We must have different specs. I've got a 1 TB hard drive.

    Hi,

I just read through all 14 pages of this and I must say, I don't know why I didn't stop after page 2. ha. This has turned into a mess. But now that I did read it, the only thing I got out of this is that Acer computers have issues where you have to go through a ridiculous process of installing a "modded" bios" to just have windows 7 and that windows 7 is what some people really want for whatever reason.

williamsjesse17 - you may want to lookup SSD hard drives. If you think your computer is fast now, like they said in the pages before, put a SSD in your computer and then come back here and say how fast your computer is.

majicmazo - That is really funny that you posted that as that user is banned and can't read whatever you say now ha.

Lol i wrote it for user's like you to be entertained, also he can read it, he just cant post, the forum is public you don't need to be logged in to read it...and yea its not all acer computers its this specific one and its a headache but it can be done, i did it with the modified bios on here, its not hard once the bios is flashed and csm is enabled it works right away.

After page 2, we discovered that Acer eventually released a BIOS that will let you downgrade, so the process got a whole lot easier. There is no longer any need to install a "modded" BIOS to downgrade.

I now have 4 of these machines, 3 running Win 8.1, and 1 running Win 7 out of necessity. Win 7 has certain capabilities when used as an HTPC that Win 8 lacks:

    - Win 8.x does not include Windows Media Center, a core part of most HTPCs. Win 7 includes it for free.
    - Even if you buy the WMC add-on for Win 8.x, it's still incompatible with every Windows Media Center extender device except for Xbox 360. I have 6 such devices which cost me several hundred dollars. If I don't run Win 7, all those devices become door stops. So the inability to downgrade would mean I would have to buy 6 Xbox 360s to keep my whole home entertainment system running. So if you were in my shoes, would you downgrade to Win 7 or would you spend close to $1800 to replace every extender in your house?
    - Besides WMC considerations, there are many other very valid reasons to prefer the familiar, logical interface of Win 7 to the disjointed, confusing, inconsistent Win 8.x interface. I use Win 8.x every day on many other computers, but it is not suitable for my HTPC. It's not suitable for my aging parents who have no idea how to use it. It is suitable for a phone or a tablet.

These make especially good HTPCs because they are very inexpensive, small, quiet, fast and efficient. The only drawback is they come pre-loaded with Win 8.x, which this thread solves. When I found this model on sale for $140, it was the perfect candidate to replace my older HTPC. An extra 5 minutes flashing the BIOS and loading a different OS was not even a consideration. I bought the PC, made the necessary changes and was up an running in an hour, thanks to this thread.

As others have said, this thread is not about why, but how to downgrade. If you have no interest in downgrading, there is no need to read this thread at all. I personally found the information very helpful and am very grateful it was posted.

In the time I typed this, my downgraded Acer HTPC was busy recording 6 TV shows as several other recordings and live TV was played back in several other rooms in my house, well on it's way to saving me about $1000 annually on my cable bill, which would not have been possible with Win 8.x. Need any more reasons to downgrade?
