I have a USB HDD for my laptop (About 1TB). If worse comes to worse, is it possible to restore from System Image that I create on that USB HDD, or does it have to be a USB flash drive?

Skeet1983,

As for a system Restore point I believe that is only able to be stored locally on the drive it is resorting.

Although you have a few other options that you could use your External Hard drive for example creating a system image on your external drive:

So you can keep restore points on your C: drive and then have a system image on your external drive. This will give a better layer of redundancy.

Hope that helps,

Cheers,
Harry

And yes you can restore from a system image on HDD - it doesn't have to be a flash drive. It is probably a good idea to test it before you need to use it to make sure it works. If you have a few hours make a system image and then restore to it.

YES & NO.

You can have System Image on the USB HDD, but you will need a USB flash boot drive to boot up to restore the System Image.

Ok, thank you. Is the USB Boot Drive the same as the Recovery Drive that can be created? How would I go about doing this? A post above said to create System Image on the USB HDD and also need a USB Boot drive.

How do I create a USB Boot Drive?

Lets say my computer has nothing on it (No OS, drivers, etc). How would I get it to working condition? I know I need to have a System Image, but have no idea how to create the USB Boot drive...

without the Recovery partition copy.

1) Download the app from the link in the post.

2) Make the Recovery disk using the winPE5 version.

or

I would recommend you making the OEM manufacturer's Recovery DVD's or USB drive.
or
You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from the OEM manufacturer's website.
