    Full system specs, please.

If I were you, I'd start with uninstalling antivirus.

Then run this command from an elevated command prompt:

    chkdsk /r

Have your tried downloading the .ISO media and running the upgrade from that?

an example can be seen here:

Try that and see how it goes for you.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello,

We understand that many customers are receiving error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 when installing Windows 8.1. This error is typically caused by an incompatible driver.

If you are receiving this error:
    1.
First, please double-check the error code. There are many variations of error 0xC1900101, each with a different location code -- the error extension, located after the dash. Raatus,

Have you tried downloading Windows 8.1 and making a bootable USB drive yet?

You can go to this Microsoft website and using your product key you can create a bootable usb:

Upgrade Windows with only a product key - Microsoft Windows Help

Once downloaded has completed and you have loaded it so you are on a blue screen saying "Install Windows 8.1"
click "Install by creating media",click next
    click "ISO File"

Then save the ISO file somewhere sensible. From that i recommend using the tool in this post and create your bootable USB:
Create Bootable USB or DVD with Windows 8 ISO

Hope you have more success this way.

    Cheers,
    Harry
