Hrrrm good info fafhrd, but I don't think bcd is much of the issue in Titan's machine. Titan loaded an incompatible driver with Windows 8 and it needs to be uninstalled by getting to safe mode. Once there, open device manager, right click the audio and choose uninstall while also checking the box to delete the driver.

Wait lol maybe I am misuderstanding here. Is your post meant to help get to safe mode + networking or just safe mode? (Either of them at all?)

In any case, it made me think with more than 2 of my brain cells duh on me!!!

Titan, go into the bios and disable the onboard audio and see if you can boot normally to Windows.

Just a thought. If this is a simple 'bad driver' issue, the problem would have gone away after a Reset/Refresh. Both of these options provide a clean install of Windows.

I will try to disable sound in bios. I reformatted the hard drive and did a fresh install, but it just freezes at the fish again. Where do I disable the sound in the bios?

I still think it is the Marvel raid card though

Titan, I'm just going by theory here, so it may or may not help you. But if this was happening to me, and I though it was the storage issue, I would get a copy of the latest driver for the storage from my motherboard's website. (Make sure you choose AHCI or IDE, depending on how you have bios set.) Extract the driver and have it ready on a USB stick. When you go to install Windows again, follow this method to get to the device manager and then install the driver:

Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation - Windows 7 Forums

(You might have to check fafhrd's post to get to safe mode instead. As far as I know, Windows 8 only lets you normally get to safe mode in a dual boot system.)

    ------------

Other than that, if you are installing by using a USB stick, are you removing it now when you try to get past the fish?

Also, if you still can't get it going, remove all devices internally from the machine like any add on cards and make it so the system is barebones only with the absolute necessities and see if it goes on like that.

Maybe fafhrd might have something else to say in addition to everything. I dunno.

But ya, that device manager trick should work if you put the correct driver during Windows install.

Yes, it has been flawless for me since install.

Do you know which motherboard you have? I'm just curious...maybe if I look into it I can see better or whatnot.

Another idea is to integrate the proper driver into the install DVD or USB: How to add drivers to Windows 7 installation DVD? - Super User

And yet, this other idea may be the simplest and work: installation - Windows 7 F6 Drivers off a USB Drive - Super User

I can't believe it. I fixed it. I think it was because my 500 gb slave drive sata connection was loose. Thank you for all of your help! If it boots up again I will consider it stable.
