I'm going to go snag a copy of 32 bit of Windows 8 and 8.1 to see if the AMD processor in the PC might be not meeting something...

As for hard drive testing, I've used HD Tune Pro and checked the hard drive for errors, it came out clean, and there aren't any other issues with it. It's a Western Digital drive, not a Seagate.

Bad RAM will give you file copy errors etc on installs. It does sound like a hardware fault of some kind.

Yes about RAM. How do the capacitors look on the motherboard? Any rounded tops or leaking electrolyte on one or more, especially near cpu?

Not from what I can tell, I've inspected the motherboard a couple times and didn't see anything peculiar. I'll check it a bit more thoroughly tomorrow. I also need to do some thorough runs on the sticks of RAM, there are two sticks of 512 MB DDR2 along with a gig stick.

So I read today that HP is only going to deliver firmware updates if your PC is within the warranty...of course HP would be a pain the crotch like that.

Here's the hardware problem everyone is saying about.

Just use one gig stick and not other 2. It will be stable then.

You could tweak the bios manually likely, for it to accept all, but that's another story.

Get it going with just the 1 for now.

I tried just the one 512, but before I had all two running and still nothing. Let me check, I shall report back.

The first 512 stick and 1 gig stick of RAM have been tried out individually and the Windows installer from the USB STILL isn't booting up...

I have no log files to access unfortunately...

Keep only 1 GB stick installed, others removed. Go to bios and set Optimized Defaults then save. Cross your fingers and hope for best.
